Help keep our local history alive
The Apollo Area Historical Society aims to keep local history alive for future generations. We need your help to make it possible!
You don’t need a degree in history to contribute, just a willingness to share your time and talent with others. And we’re more than willing to teach you the ropes!
As a small nonprofit organization, we depend on volunteers for a a wide range of activities—from helping with events to manning the museum to grantwriting and publicity—you name it, we probably need it!

☐ Help at the Museum. Help man the museum at 317 N. Second Street on Wednesdays or Saturdays 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. from April through December. Current volunteers will be on hand to give you an overview of the museum and answer any questions you might have. We’ll need extra help during Bicentennial Week (July 1-10).
☐ Help at Drake Log Cabin. We always need help to keep the Drake Log Cabin open. As people visit Apollo, we want to be sure they have access to both the cabin & the museum.
☐ Help Clean Up! We have ongoing clean-up nights at the Museum as well as seasonal clean-ups both inside and out at the Log Cabin. Right now we are meeting at the Museum on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. to sort artifacts and clean inside & out. As the summer progresses, we will occasionally go to the Drake Log Cabin or the Civil War Memorial for upkeep around there. Please contact us for more information.
☐ Programs & Events. Help greet/assist visitors, make or serve refreshments, prepare or distribute programs, or find other ways to help!
☐ Project Planning & Organizing. Do you love planning projects? Are you itching to help organize and sort materials? We can always use help with managing and organizing our historical information and materials.
☐ Fund-raising, publicity/public relations, grant-writing. Input always welcome.
Volunteer schedules will be set around your needs. You decide how much time you’re able to share for this worthwhile cause.
